As you entered the Charleston Civic Center from Clendenin Street you were surrounded by the new and beautiful Charleston Civic Center. Lots of light filtered through the glass and it gleamed with everything new. It was exciting to see that so much progress had been made; from buying your ticket to moving to the entrance of the West Virginia Home Show (WVHS).

Entering Lego Land was the first order of business. 52 different houses were built by 4th grade students from various schools throughout Kanawha County. This project provided an opportunity for students to better understand the building industry and to have a hands-on experience to learn from. Our future builders are some of these students!

2017 Winners of the Lego Projects were:

First Place:
Weberwood Elementary (Kristen Vieweg class)

Second Place:
Montrose Elementary (Krystal Lanham class)

Third Place:
Pinch Elementary (Marcia Lawson class)

Tiny House

The Home Builders Association of Greater Charleston built a Tiny House for the 2017 WVHS. A team of 23 individuals worked for 5 months to complete the 165 square foot house. Numerous Member Companies donated materials and supplies. (see attached list)

It was our way of showcasing what our members could do in any given opportunity. The house provided all the comforts needed. The loft bedroom is furnished with a full-size bed although it would accommodate a queen size. The full size bathroom provides a marble shower, full size vanity, toilet and dressing area with closet space. The pantry area hides the hot water tank but provides shelving for plenty of storage. The kitchen table offers you two stools that tuck under the table for easy storage. The granite counter top and top of the line microwave and kitchen cabinets provide for a clean, well-organized kitchen.

Two nice chairs provide a place to sit and talk about the day. The Tiny House provides air and heat and a ceiling fan for just the right touch.

Sitting among the beautiful Landscaping By Hillcrest exhibit; it looked as if it belongs in just that setting.

The house is being raffled off and some lucky person can take it home. Tickets are $20.00 each or 6 tickets for $100.00.

3,000 tickets are being sold before the house is given away.
